US holiday site HomeAway partners with Travelmob to list rentals in Southeast Asia

US holiday site HomeAway partners with Travelmob to list rentals in Southeast Asia

Travelmob, an Airbnb-like service that operates in Southeast Asia, has clinched a deal with HomeAway that will see its rentals appear on the US-based global vacation site.

HomeAway doesn’t provide specific monthly traffic statistics but it does say that the deal will open Travelmob’s listings to its 420 million annual visitors.

According to the deal, Travelmob’s listings will show in searches when a visitor to the HomeAway site browses for properties in Asia Pacific. A spokesperson confirmed that both sides are working to make the experience more seamless going forward, which could see Travelmob listings include in the site with more visibility.

Nasdaq-listed HomeAway is no stranger to Asia. The company invested in and inked a similar partnership with Tujia.com in China last December, while it also has a deal with Wego, which enjoys a strong presence in Asia Pacific and the Middle East. The company says its expansion of listings with Travelmob will help “meet the growing demand for villas and holiday rentals in Asia”.

That demand has already brought Airbnb to the region. Last year, the company opened dedicated customer support offices in a number of markets in Asia Pacific and established a regional HQ in Singapore. Airbnb believes it can increase its listings in Asia from 20,000 to 2 million — for reference it has over 250,000 properties worldwide.

Along that very line of thought, HomeAway says that Asia Pacific “is one of the fastest growing regions for tourism”. More than one third of air passengers are expected to travel on routes within the continent by 2015.

Travelmob landed $1 million in seed funding, led by Singapore’s Jungle Ventures, in September 2012.
