Tribesports now wants to be the ultimate fitness-tracking app on Android

From Runtastic and Endomondo, to Strava and RunKeeper, there’s no shortage of GPS fitness-tracking apps out there. So when the good folks at Tribesports launched their own incarnation for iPhone back in January, well, one wondered what they could bring to the table that wasn’t already available. But we weren’t disappointed.

Tribesports Training is striving to be the ultimate fitness-tracking application, recording, analyzing and instructing across multiple disciplines. And now, it’s finally available for Android too.

Tribesports for Android pretty much replicates its iOS counterpart to its core, and if you’ve used any other similar app (such as RunKeeper), it won’t take you long to get to grips with. You can log runs, cycles, workouts, and specific sports/classes, with real-time stats and progress graphs illustrating your endeavors.

Indeed, it’s with this cross-activity approach that Tribesports is seeking to differentiate itself. Do some dumbbell work before your run? Tribesports lets you log such data manually and in detail. You can choose from a ton of very specific activities (Box Jumps, anyone?), and save them to your favorites for easy access.

You can also include the number of reps, add notes/photos and save it alongside all your runs, swims and cycles. Moreover, there are thousands of workouts generated by the Tribesports community, so you can get actual instruction on numerous exercises and stretches.

Launched initially as a social network for sporty people way back in 2011, Tribesports has evolved into a different beast. Yes, there is still the community-based element that lets people network and share inspirations around their favorite sports, but it’s now a community-powered sportswear manufacturer and retailer, designed as an alternative to the “overpriced performance sportswear currently available to customers”, as the company puts it. And, of course, it’s now a fitness-tracker too.

It’s great to see Tribesports Training finally arrive for Android. Whether its community-focused, multi-discipline approach can win the hearts and minds of fitness freaks who are already tethered to their fitness-tracking app of choice, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, check out our full review from the initial app launch earlier this year.
