Samsung posts CES 2013 teaser video promising new TV launch, but remains quiet on specifics

Samsung continues to step up the gears ahead of the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and, after revealing details of a new Smart Hub for its Smart TVs yesterday, it has published its official CES 2013 teaser video confirming it will launch a new TV at the January show.

Building on the vague “something new” hint left earlier this month — when we speculatively said it *could* launch the Galaxy S4 at CES — the teaser does explicitly say that we can expect new things from its TV business: ‘Samsung to launch new TV at CES’. Sadly it remains tight lipped on the precise details for now.

Incidentally, Samsung is particularly proud of its CES teasers. It says that last year’s, which was awarded a Platinum Marcom Award, was “highly praised as it aroused curiosity on future Smart TV in a novel way with the well-made images”. Here’s the 2013 effort:

Given that TVs are among the main products launched at the show — which is attended by rival set makers likes of LG, Panasonic etc — that was really a given. All the noise and emphasis Samsung is making leaves us hoping for something very spectacular, particularly given that it continues to operator in this space without rivalry from Apple, its enemy-in-chief. That’s something that is (once again) the subject of much rumor and speculation.

There are less than two weeks to go before CES 2013, and Samsung may yet furnish us with more tidbits but it’s more than likely that we’ll need to sit tight for the big details.

The latest rumors see CNET report that Samsung Display will be show off flexible screens, which is said to include a bendy 55-inch screen and smartphones with a 1,280×720-pixel HD resolution and a 267 pixel density. Flexible screen demos are not new but, at that size and display quality, such products would push the technology forward.

Last year’s CES show saw Samsung unveil a range of new smart TVs, new 3D content, WiFi-enabled cameras and more, as the Guardian summarized.
