In addition to extending into Brazil, Xiaomi also struck a deal with Foxconn International Holdings to locally manufacture all handsets sold in Brazil.
“We already had a very engaged community of Mi fans in Brazil before our launch today, and many of them have been eagerly looking forward to getting their hands on our products,” Vice President of Xiaomi Global (and Brazil native) Hugo Barra said.
“I strongly believe that Redmi 2 will be a game-changer in the Brazilian market, offering consumers a quality option never seen before in this price category. And this is only the start of our journey — as our business in Brazil grows, we will be bringing in a greater variety of exciting Mi products.”
The Redmi 2 features a 4.7-inch screen, dual-SIM supporting 2G, 3G and 4G, and an 8MP rear camera with an f2.2 aperture. So far, Xiaomi is only making it available in dark grey for the Brazilian market.
