Spotify Premium goes half-price for Movistar mobile subscribers in Spain

Spotify Premium goes half-price for Movistar mobile subscribers in Spain

Spotify has inked a deal with Telefónica-owned Movistar (in Spanish) in Spain which will see Spotify Premium offered at a discount rate alongside its monthly mobile subscription and prepaid packages.

The deal will see the top-tier service offered for €4.99 a month for two years, compared to the usual €9.99 a month as is the case across Spain and other Eurozone markets.

We recently reported that Spotify had partnered with Orange in Switzerland, which was the latest in a series of telco tie-ups across Europe. Orange’s offer includes unlimited calls, unlimited texts and “substantial” surf bundles for those under the age of 27, and with the deal it also included mobile music-streaming through Spotify, for free. This means any Spotify streaming won’t count towards a user’s mobile data usage.

Tapping mobile operators is a surefire win to get new customers, which is why Spotify entered into a similar deal with Deutsche Telekom in Germany last year as well as with Telia in Scandinavia, Yoigo in Spain, SFR in France and KPN in Belgium and the Netherlands. ISPs are also a good in-road, with Spotify previously inking a deal with Virgin Media in the UK, getting them easy access to a very relevant demographic. Yesterday, Spotify also ditched its five plays-per-song limit for free users in the UK, which will also likely go down a storm.
