Virgin Media Signs Deal With Spotify

Virgin Media Signs Deal With Spotify

UK ISP and television provider Virgin Media has finally confirmed the details of its partnership with Sweden-based music streaming service Spotify, offering unlimited music streaming over broadband, mobile and TV starting at £4.99 per month.

MusicAlly obtained details of the deal, which indicates Spotify streams will be streamed via Virgin Media customers televisions via the company’s new TiVO set-top box. Customers will be able to sign up for Spotify Unlimited for £4.99 a month and get Spotify Premium for £9.99. Spotify package pricing is expected to be lower than the existing Spotify packages as a result of the deal.

The music blog believes that the Spotify Premium option will provide additional features like the ability to access the service via a television.

We reported in June that a Virgin Media/Spotify announcement could be imminent, suggesting it would see the ISP sign a deal with Spotify and four record companies.

Despite unoriginal pricing, Virgin Media will provide special offers and an exclusive signup window to its existing customers but will also provide bundles for existing Spotify customers using their broadband packages.

Virgin Media’s executive director of broadband Jon James said:

“We are delighted to have united the Virgin Media brand with the world’s best music service. Spotify will help our customers to fill their world with music, whether it’s at home or on the go, and provide a unique way to get even more out of Virgin Media’s leading digital services.”

Spotify will not offer its free service to Virgin Media customers but the deal is the biggest of its kind for an ISP. Offers and bundles will become available soon but Virgin Media says its service will become available “in the coming months”.

We will update you as soon as these become available.
