Spotify launched in Switzerland back in late 2011, and a little over a year on, the music-streaming service has announced a partnership with Orange in Switzerland, which will see its Orange Young deals relaunched.
And where does Spotify fit in here? Well, while Orange’s offer includes unlimited calls, unlimited texts and “substantial” surf bundles for those under the grand-old-age of 27, it also now includes unlimited mobile music streaming through Spotify, for free. This means any Spotify streaming won’t count towards a user’s mobile data usage, which is a fundamental part of this offering.
It’s an interesting partnership for a number of reasons too, but it’s worth noting that this is Spotify’s first link-up with Orange. One of its competitors, however, has enjoyed partnerships with Orange in a number of countries, with Deezer previously announcing that 60% of its UK signups were coming from mobile, thanks in part to its Orange deal. Deezer also first landed in Africa thanks to an Orange tie-up in the Ivory Coast and Mauritius.
Tapping mobile operators is a surefire win to get new customers, which is why Spotify entered into a similar deal with Deutsche Telekom in Germany last year as well as with Telia in Scandinavia, Yoigo in Spain, SFR in France and KPN in the Netherlands. ISPs are also a good in-road, with Spotify previously inking a deal with Virgin Media in the UK, getting them easy access to a very relevant demographic.
With this latest deal, the Orange Young deals are available to all those aged under 27, and can be accessed via all Orange sales points as well as the Orange Online Shop from today. It’s also worth noting here that although it’s aimed squarely at the mobile masses, the deal will see subscribers gain access to the full Spotify Premium suite – so this includes desktop too.
