Samsung reveals 3 new mid-range Galaxy Tab4 series devices

Samsung has announced the new versions of its Galaxy Tab range of tablet devices today, confirming that it will be sticking to the 10.1-inch, 8-inch and 7-inch form factors.

The new devices sit firmly in the mid-range of the market, and include Samsung’s custom entertainment services like Group Play (for sharing and playing music with friends in real-time – it also supports document sharing), Samsung Link (for playing content across different devices) and WatchON for viewing TV or movies.

All of the devices also run the Android KitKat (4.4) operating system, too.

The largest of the series includes a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 3-megapixel camera on the rear and a 1.3-megapixel snapper on the front for stills or video calling. Out of the box, the device includes 16GB of storage, with the option to pop in a microSD card to extend it if you need more room. There’s also a 6,800mAh battery, and the device weighs a total of 487 grams.

The 8-inch model keep most of the same specs – including the same processor, camera and storage. Although the screen is smaller (at 8-inches, obviously) it offers the same resolution display as the 10.1-inch model. It is, however, significantly lighter due to that smaller screen – it weighs 320 grams, the same as two HTC One (M8) handsets.

The smallest model comes with a 7-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) screen, and mostly the same hardware specs as its larger brothers. Again, the screen size accounts for a significant drop in weight, making the device just 276 grams. Notably though, the on-board storage options for the 7-inch are set at 8GB or 16GB, but there’s no microSD expansion slot.

Pricing wasn’t revealed for any of the tablets at launch, but Samsung said they are due to go on sale (in black or white) globally in Q2 of this year, so it shouldn’t be too long until they are on retailer’s shelves.
