Just a few months after Facebook revealed it was removing Messenger from its main iOS and Android apps, the social networking giant has finally introduced iPad support for its standalone Facebook Messenger app.
There has been a flurry of Facebook activity on the mobile messaging front of late. Earlier this year, it bought the perennially popular WhatsApp for a cool $19 billion. And just last month, it introduced another messaging app called Slingshot, which we called an ephemeral messaging app to rival Snapchat. It’s a bit of a bonkers idea that has divided opinions, but essentially it borrows from other well known apps like Vine, Instagram (another Facebook service), and Snapchat.
Though you could use Facebook Messenger on your iPad before today, it was essentially a blown-up version of the iPhone incarnation. And for many, today’s update has been long overdue.
