Channel NewsAsia overhauls its Android app with new interface, adds ability for users to submit news leads

Singapore’s Channel NewsAsia TV station has finally revamped its Android app, a full year after it overhauled its iPhone and iPad app.

Launched today and currently available on Google Play, the app allows users more freedom in customising the way their app looks, as they can choose between a list or grid view.

With the new app, users get the chance to submit news leads and photos, which would likely help CNA be more involved on the ground. Singapore-based CNA was established in March 1999 by media conglomerate MediaCorp, and focuses on news in the Asia-Pacific region.

Singapore’s other media conglomerate Singapore Press Holdings already has STOMP, or Straits Times Online Mobile Print, which thrives on user-generated material.

The new app also features a real-time news ticker, video clips of news reports, location-based weather forecasts, and a TV guide listing where users can set reminders for any shows they want to watch on CNA.

Stories in the new app can be bookmarked for three days or downloaded for offline reading during times with limited Internet access.

The latest Android app is a big step up from its previous incarnation, which will be removed from stores within three months.
