Zeebox for iOS gets new TV Rooms feature, letting users discuss their favorite shows in public or private

Zeebox 3.0 has just landed in the App store, introducing a neat new TV Rooms feature that lets users converse and network around their favorite shows.

While Zeebox is typically used as a second-screen app for shows currently broadcasting (or about to broadcast), TV Rooms essentially extends the conversation beyond what’s presently airing. So, you could discuss a particular show or star for the whole week after it broadcast. You could say TV Rooms is a bit like topic-specific, Internet chat-rooms.

When you launch the latest version of the app, you’ll see a new option for TV Rooms along the main horizontal menu, which means the ‘Bookings’ tab (which highlights the most popular upcoming shows) has now been relegated to the sub-menu.

Enter a room and you’ll notice a stream of rooms, such as Doctor Who, and see at a glance how many members are in each one. Once you’ve opted to ‘Join’ a room, you can also start commenting.

You can also create your own room based around one or more TV shows, give it a name and choose to make it public or invite-only.

Last month, Zeebox rolled out a handful of updates across iOS and Android, with both app now displaying ‘New’ tags on TV shows that are broadcasting for the first time, while live shows are highlighted with, well, ‘Live’ tags.

In a tweet earlier today, Zeebox CEO and co-founder Ernest Schmitt said that there is “lots more to come in coming weeks,” so we’ll be sure to keep tabs on what this may be.

Zeebox launched in the UK back in 2011, and has since been rolled out in the US, as well as in Australia.

Zeebox 3.0 is available to download for iOS now, with Android likely to follow with this new feature in the coming weeks.
