Twitter has updated its short-form video sharing app Vine to support recording with the iPhone’s front-facing camera, as well as the ability to mention other users either in captions or comments throughout the service.
Hitting the record button in the top right-hand corner of the app brings up the same recording screen as before, with the simple tap and hold to record functionality in full effect.
The interface has been updated with a small, twin arrow symbol in the bottom left-hand corner, however, which allows the user to switch to the front-facing camera at anytime.
It’s an incremental change, but one that should produce some pretty interesting results from iOS users, given that it’s now much easier to combine shots from both the front and rear-facing camera in a single six-second video.
The app also supports mentions, which means that you can tag other Vine users in a post. Anyone who is featured in a caption or comment will receive a notification in the Activity section of the app; simply type @, followed by their username to see a list of suggested people to tag.
Earlier this month, Vine revamped the Explore section of the app with trending hashtags, following the addition of Web embeds in March.
