Twitter is officially bringing back political watchdog Politwoops

After killing off Politwoops, an archive of politicians’ deleted tweets, earlier this year, Twitter today announced that it has reached an agreement with The Sunlight Foundation and The Open State Foundation to reinstate the watchdog tool.

Since 2010, Politwoops has launched more than 30 country-specific accounts aimed at catching politician’s screw ups by means of Tweets that they ultimately thought better of, and deleted, after posting. The accounts were unceremoniously deleted by Twitter in August of this year.

According to the director of the Open State Foundation, Arjan El Fassed:

This agreement is great news for those who believe that the world needs more transparency. Our next step is now to continue and expand our work to enable the public to hold public officials accountable for their public statements.

The announcement today comes after Jack Dorsey’s renewed vow to keep Twitter “clear and transparent” at its own Flight conference in October.
