The Eye Tribe launches its eye control technology for Android with developer SDK coming in June

The Eye Tribe has announced the official launch of its eye control technology for Android smartphones and tablets and the upcoming release of a developer SDK.

The company made the announcement in conjunction with the DEMO Mobile 2013 event. Its SDK will be available in June, with sign-ups starting today.

“What we show today is only the tip of the iceberg of what eye control will be used for in applications and games,” The Eye Tribe CEO and co-founder Sune Alstrup Johansen said in a statement.

The startup, which was founded by former PhD students from the IT University of Copenhagen, says its technology can be used for eye-activated logins, eye-tracking scrolling, new gaming control and even user engagement analytics. It claims the hardware requirements for its product will only cost a dollar in materials.

Johansen also asserts that the technology’s accuracy is equal to that of a fingertip because it employs sub-millimeter pupil tracking.

The startup raised a total of $1 million in funding from investors last year and also received a $2.3 million government grant.
