Social media scheduling app Buffer arrives on BlackBerry 10 ahead of global launch next week

Social media scheduling app Buffer arrives on BlackBerry 10 ahead of global launch next week

Buffer has been ported over to RIM’s new BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system, and according to its designers, the app is already receiving some glowing reviews and feedback.

Luca Filigheddu, a BlackBerry developer “evangelist” at RIM, announced the release of Buffer over on the company’s developer blog earlier today.

Buffer is an app that helps people share content on social networks, but in a controlled, sensible manner. Users queue up their status updates, photos, links and videos so that they go out at a specific time or with an allotted time in-between them, thereby avoiding that irritating flood that often takes up your feed or timeline.

So for example, you can star an article in Google Reader, and it will be added to Buffer so that it’s posted out on Facebook at an optimal time. Or you can shoot a photo on Instagram, and it will automatically be ‘Buffered’ and tweeted to your followers at a suitable time for you.

Leo Widrich, co-founder of the Buffer app, said converting the app was surprisingly simple. “It took us less than one day to do so and it was running super smoothly immediately. Seeing hundreds of downloads within days and great reviews too was an incredibly overwhelming response from our userbase.”

BlackBerry 10 isn’t being launched until next week, but it’s already in the hands of app developers and 120 enterprise and government “customers”, which include Fortune 500 companies.

Widrich also revealed that BlackBerry users create the second largest amount of mobile traffic through Buffer, beating out even Android. “So being able to provide a slick app in such a hassle free way made our life extremely easy,” he said. “And, a large part of our userbase is a lot happier and more productive.”

RIM is officially launching BlackBerry 10 on January 30, and has said that it hopes to have 70,000 apps available at launch. With Buffer ready and waiting, along with the insanely popular baseball app MLB At Bat, the company is inching ever closer to reaching that target.
