Digital photo products company Shutterfly has today announced that it is to acquire ThisLife, a startup that offers tools to help users organize and share their photos and videos.
Terms of the deal, which was last week reported by TechCrunch to be in the works, have not been disclosed. However, the announcement states that “In the coming months, Shutterfly will layer ThisLife’s technology onto the Shutterfly platform to enable richer storytelling and easier product creation. Consumers will be able to safely and easily preserve, organize and share their memories, regardless of where photos are stored – from Facebook to Picasa to mobile phones.”
The acquisition gives Shutterfly a cloud-based service to accompany its more traditions products, which include photo books; cards; stationery; prints; calendars and photo gifts. The move follows the company’s acquisition of photo analysis and story-telling startup Photoccino in May 2012, and Penguin Digital in September. Shutterfly says that it is using these deals to build “the next generation, fully integrated, platform agnostic solution for organizing, storing, sharing and creating physical and digital products from the web or mobile devices.”
ThisLife was founded three years ago and is based in Palo Alto. It raised a $2.75m funding round last summer and offers a photo and video storage and sharing service aimed largely at families, allowing partners, spouses or friends to share albums.
