Back in early 2009 we reported on how ShareMyPlaylists.com was a pretty useful tool for letting Spotify users, well, share their playlists.
The week after ShareMyPlaylists rolled out its very own music discovery and playlist-sharing Spotify app, the company has now published its Top 100 Tracks of 2011.
The songs are determined by the number of playlists the songs have been added to, multiplied by the number of plays they received during 2011.
“What’s probably most interesting is that back-catalogue songs are represented just as much, if not more, than chart material,” says Kieron Donoghue, founder of ShareMyPlaylists.com. “This shows the value of older catalogues on Spotify as well as new releases.”
Indeed, the list is somewhat surprising in that the top performing tracks are 20 years old…who says the youth of today have no music taste?
Since it launched in 2009, ShareMyPlaylists has published over 60,000 Spotify playlists. The site is currently churning out 10,000 playlist plays each day, with over 100 new playlists uploaded daily
Number one on the 2011 list was House of Pain’s Jump Around, released in 1992. Followed in second place by Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, which hit its 20-year anniversary back in September.
Here’s the top-1o most playlisted tracks according to ShareMyPlaylists, and here’s the top 100.
