Samsung issues one final reminder: We’re about to launch “The Next Galaxy”

The upcoming launch of the Samsung Galaxy (or “next Samsung Galaxy” ) is arguably the most anticipated unveiling of an Android device ever. Just to be sure though, the Korean firm has sent out one final reminder of its event in London today (or tomorrow for those in the US)…especially for who’ve been hiding under a rock, permanently offline or otherwise engaged for the last 6 months.

The reminder from its Next Galaxy website — via Mobile Syrup — follows media invites sent out last month, which came after a boat-load of speculation that pointed to a launch in late May.

We were very impressed with HTC’s new One range of Android-powered devices and we’re eager to see if Samsung can deliver with the third instalment of its Galaxy range.

The company recently quashed rumours it is incorporating a 3D display into future handsets, but has kept details of the new Galaxy close to its chest. One leak suggested that the device will feature a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display and the company’s own quad-core Exynos processor, but this remains unconfirmed.

Samsung revealed in February that it shipped 20 million Galaxy II devices in the first 10 months after launch and, with shipments of the Note also high, it will be hoping that the new device maintains strong demand for its mobile products.

Separate research from Strategy Analytics and IDC pegged Samsung’s smartphone shipments as the largest within the industry, accounting for around a third of total shipments, as it continues to be Apple’s chief rival.

We’ll be there at the event — which kicks off at 19:00 local time, 14:00 EST — so keep an eye on our updates for the latest news and details of the new device.
