Things really are bitter between Nokia and Apple at the moment. Nokia has announced that it has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Apple infringes additional patents in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, tablets and computers.
The move follows an initial complaint by Nokia over five patents last May. The ITC made an initial determination just days ago, deciding that Apple wasn’t at fault, and now the Finnish mobile giant is back for more.
In a press release, Nokia says that the seven patents in the new complaint relate to “Nokia’s pioneering innovations that are now being used by Apple to create key features in its products in the areas of multi-tasking operating systems, data synchronization, positioning, call quality and the use of Bluetooth accessories.”
“Our latest ITC filing means we now have 46 Nokia patents in suit against Apple, many filed more than 10 years before Apple made its first iPhone,” Paul Melin, Vice President of Intellectual Property at Nokia is quoted as saying in the release. “Nokia is a leading innovator in technologies needed to build great mobile products and Apple must stop building its products using Nokia’s proprietary innovation.”
The US wrangles aren’t the only claims Nokia is making against Apple. It has also filed lawsuits in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK. Meanwhile, Apple recently filed a lawsuit in the High Court in London, challenging one of the seven patents Nokia filed against it at the end of last year.
