Nokia Sues Apple in Wisconsin On 5 Patents

Nokia Sues Apple in Wisconsin On 5 Patents

Nokia is suing Apple in Federal Court, “alleging that Apple iPhone and iPad 3G products infringe five important Nokia patents.”

Of course, this comes amid a flurry of lawsuits in the mobile industry, many of which involve Apple (in one direction or the other).

In a brief press release, Nokia says:

The patents in question relate to technologies for enhanced speech and data transmission, using positioning data in applications and innovations in antenna configurations that improve performance and save space, allowing smaller and more compact devices. These patented innovations are important to Nokia’s success as they allow improved product performance and design.

Interesting that the suit mentions applications and not just hardware – a pretty obvious attack on the Apps Store. The speed issues could have something to do with the iPhone’s chipset, but it’s pretty vague. Also, as location is mentioned, turn-by-turn navigation and mapping might be involved, but again, as what is above is about the extent of the press release, its hard to know for sure at this point.
