Online fashion brand subscription service JustFab has acquired children’s fashion and personalized e-commerce service FabKids. In doing so, JustFab’s 10 million members will be able to purchase children’s apparel as the service expands its categories and product offerings.
Through JustFab, members receive a style review from one of its celebrity stylists, including Kimora Lee Simmons, Jessica Paster, and George Kotsiopoulos, before searching through the hundreds of different style recommendations that are based on their personal style and fashion preferences. The company says that most of its items are $39.95 and offers free shipping for all items over $39.95.
With FabKids, it’s a subscription service costing members $49.95 per month. In the style similar to other services like Wittlebee, FabKids delivers a set of clothes to members for them to review and see what they like. The kids are able to help decide on which article of clothing they like. When it launched last August, it was only targeting parents of girls with a boys service scheduled to now launch in Q3 of 2013. The company was started by ShopStyle founder Andy Moss and actress Christina Applegate.
Through this acquisition, JustFab says that it will use its “fully integrated supply chain from source manufacturing to the fulfillment center” to help increase FabKids distribution. The fulfillment center currently ships out more than 250,000 packages a month. In addition, FabKids products will now be available outside the US with an expected reach in Germany, UK, and Canada.
Having a children’s category has been something JustFab says its members have been demanding for a while. Don Ressler, the co-CEO of JustFab, says that “children’s apparel is a natural progression of our fashion brand, which has expanded from shoes and bags into denim and jewelry most recently. The opportunities for cross promotion among the brands are vast. Many JustFab members have daughters who are mini-fashionistas and the mothers of the FabKids girls love to spoil themselves with a little glamour.”
JustFab says that FabKids will continue to be based in San Francisco and led by Moss and Applegate. The sites will soon merge into one platform and absorb its product and technology team.
