Google+ app adds controls for Pages, ‘Find People’ option for Android and iPhone 5 support for iOS

Google+ app adds controls for Pages, ‘Find People’ option for Android and iPhone 5 support for iOS

Google today updated its native Google+ app for both Android and iOS. You can download the latest release now from the official Google Play store and from the official Apple App Store.

Both the Android version and the iOS version have received support for Google+ pages, meaning page owners can now view, post, and comment from their accounts using their mobile devices. This is a welcome addition and is of course critical if Google+ is to take on Facebook in the marketing world.

After that feature, the two versions split off into opposite directions. While we can expect Google to pay more attention to Android, the company is by no means disregarding the importance of iOS. The Android version has received an arguably smaller update: a new home screen widget and the addition of a ‘Find People’ option. Photos can now also be opened with just “1-click” (I think Google means one tap).

The iOS version meanwhile has received iPhone 5 and iOS 6 support. While that’s definitely nothing to scoff at, it has arrived rather late in comparison to updates from other social networks like Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and even Foursquare. Regardless of what iOS device or version you’re using, however, you can now edit your posts and save photos to the camera roll. Oh, and iPad users can now search for people and posts.

Here’s the official Google+ for Android version 3.2 changelog:

  • Google+ page owners can view, post and comment from mobile.
  • Discover people and topics more easily using ‘Find people’.
  • Access photos from posts with 1-click.
  • New Home screen Widget re-design.

Here’s the official Google+ for iOS version 3.2 changelog:

  • Support for iPhone 5 and iOS 6.
  • Google+ page owners can view, post and comment from mobile.
  • Ability to edit posts.
  • Ability to save photos to camera roll.
  • Ability to search for people and posts on iPad.
