Just a few hours after its Vimeo update, Pinterest today updated its iOS app with iPhone 5 support and new pinning options for the iPad. You can download the latest version from the official Apple App store.
The iPhone 5 is launching tomorrow, and Pinterest wants to be ready for when it does. It’s of course very likely that new iPhone users will be download apps on day one, and Pinterest will look very good if it’s up-to-date, unlike many other apps and competitors (*cough* Facebook *cough* Twitter).
It’s not exactly clear what support for Apple’s latest and greatest means, but I would wager it translates to taking advantage of the device’s slightly larger screen. Below is a screenshot of the app for the iPhone. It’s not difficult to see how additional vertical space could be used to see additional Boards, Pins, and Likes:
The app’s page now claims the following: “Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.” That’s right, there’s not mention of the iPad Mini, so don’t get ahead of yourself.
The official changelog for version 2.0.3 is below:
- Performance & stability improvements.
- Pin from camera & photo library on iPad.
- Support for iPhone 5.
I would say this is in the opposite order of importance. The first is just the usual bug fixes and speed tweaks, the second is additional functionality, and the third is support for a whole new device. A device that is already selling like crazy.
