Free Space For Creatives Launching In New York

Free Space For Creatives Launching In New York

This guest post was written by Marla Schuchman.

Are you a designer, illustrator, or writer in New York City? We have good news, a creative space is opening for you and your cohorts this August 2, 2010 called the Wix Lounge. It’s free for creative people to use, and it’s located in Chelsea. You can find it at 10 W. 18th St. near the Flatiron building and Union Square Park, meaning that it is easy to get to on mass transit.

How is it free? Wix.com is supporting the project, meaning that the company is footing the bill. Wix, if you didn’t know, is a popular drag-and-drop website creator that helps inexperienced people build serious websites.

Wix.com is opening this space in the hopes of bringing together creative individuals who would otherwise work from home, a crowded café, or their local student lounge. Victoria Monsul, Director of the lounge, hopes that the space will “ensure a warm and friendly environment [as well as] opportunities to pick the brains of fellow colleagues while bringing creative people together.” Whether for drinks, meetings or contacts, Victoria says “the connections to be made at the Lounge are bound to be inspirational.”

The Wix Lounge is fully equipped with all the necessary evils that hard workers need – coffee, cocktails, and wireless internet. People who use the lounge can bring potential clients or partners to meet in the space, dropping the need for a separate office. The lounge should be an ideal place for NYC artists to camp out, work, and collaborate.

To celebrate its launch, the lounge is throwing the “Wix Lounge Reveal Party” to get things off to a start. The location’s schedule, events, and tutorials will be announced at that time. People who attend the event will be asked to vote on the space’s hours of operation. If you want the place to be open late, speak up.

You can check out the event’s official notice here, and it’s Facebook event page here.
