For months, Apple has been rumored to be working on a streaming video service, and it looks like the company will finally unveil its next offering on March 25. It’s sent out invites for an event at its new campus, with the tagline ‘It’s show time.’
Apple hasn’t confirmed that this is what it’ll be about, but that’s the word on the street. We heard last year that the company had plans to spend a billion dollars to produce original video content through 2018, with big names like Oprah, Aaron Paul, Steve Carrell, and Kristen Wiig. It also has deals in place with directors M Night Shyamalan, JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg.

In addition, Apple was also planning to bundle its streaming video, music, and news subscriptions together into a single package, as part of a push to sell its services more actively, as per a report from last June. It isn’t clear if we’ll see this bundle, or if Apple will reveal its streaming TV and News services separately; the latter will reportedly let you subscribe to several publications and pay a single fee for the lot.
And finally, there’s another clue in the form of Apple opening up its AirPlay 2 streaming tech to non-Apple hardware in January. That means you won’t need an Apple TV box to stream content from the company’s ecosystem in your living room; a supported TV from LG, Samsung, Vizio, or Sony will do. It’s a sign that Apple is keen on more people accessing its services, regardless of how deeply they’re invested in its hardware.
Although it’s unlikely given these clues, we could be off the mark about this. The Verge notes that there’s a chance Apple will unveil the next version of its AirPods wireless earphones, a new budget iPad, and the AirPower wireless charging pad that it first talked up back in 2017.
You should be able to stream the event from the comfort of your home, as with most other Apple productions – but those details aren’t out yet. We’ll update this post with that info when it’s out. Tune into TNW on March 25 to learn more about what the company has in store.
