Cisco this morning announced its intent to acquire privately-held Truviso, a company that specializes in real-time network data analysis and reporting software.
Financial terms of the acquisition, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Cisco’s fiscal year 2012, were not disclosed.
Truviso’s analytics software gives companies insights into big data, enabling them to learn more about their operations, marketing programs, and business services.
Its flagship Continuous Analytics software basically alleviates the need for organizations to batch, store, organize, and retrieve data before it is analyzed.
Customers typically include ad network operators, online publishers, ecommerce websites, and enterprise software vendors.
With the acquisition, Cisco intends to enhance its network management platform, Cisco Prime, leveraging Truviso’s technology to gather and analyze streaming data.
The Truviso team will be integrated into the Cisco Network Management Technology Group.
Founded in 2005, Truviso raised at least $13 million in funding from ONSET Ventures, Diamondhead Ventures and UPS’ Strategic Enterprise Fund.
The company was co-founded by Michael Franklin, a computer science professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and and his Ph.D. student (and former IBM and Netscape employee) Sailesh Krishnamurthy.
