Barnes & Noble’s Nook HD and Nook HD+ tablets now on sale in more than 4,500 Walmart stores in the US

Barnes & Noble has extended the availability of its new Nook HD and Nook HD+ tablets, today announcing that, like its other Nook devices, the Android devices are now on sale at Walmart stores across the US.

The retailer, which assisted Barnes & Noble in driving sales of its Nook Simple Touch and other device over the Thanksgiving period, will stock the tablets online also, offering the Nook HD and Nook HD+ for $199 and $269 respectively.

The launch comes a vital time for Barnes & Noble in the run-up to Christmas, as new and older Nook e-readers and tablets will be stocked in over Walmart 4,500 stores and clubs across the US, adding to the company’s 700 outlets in the country.

Barnes & Noble continues the rollout of its new tablet devices in the US, but is also banking on success in the UK, where it first launched its Nook Simple Touch Glowlight e-reader and followed up with the release of the Nook HD and Nook HD+, costing £159 an £229 respectively.

Attempting to fight back against Amazon — a company that enjoys a huge percentage of UK ebook and e-reader sales — Barnes & Noble’s tablets partnered with 8 UK retailers, including John Lewis, Argos, Asda, Dixons, Sainsbury, Waitrose, Blackwell’s and Foyles.
