Berlin-based Triposo released updated mobile travel guides for iOS a little over a month ago, serving up information and maps for more than 8,000 destinations globally, including 5,000 small towns across America.

Created by ex-Googlers, and with three million downloads already under its belt, Triposo has rolled out another big update to its mobile app, geared towards helping you travel like a local.

With the latest update, Triposo gives travelers access to events that are happening nearby, right now, and includes last-minute hotel rooms and tips on what to eat.

“At Triposo, we are passionate about travel – everyone on the founding team has traveled to at least 50 countries and we know first-hand what it is like to visit a foreign city where you don’t speak the language,” says Douwe Osinga, CEO and co-founder of Triposo, also former lead engineer at Google.

“We built this guide to help people discover the unexpected and bring adventure and serendipity to even the most calculated travelers.”

Triposo’s travel guides also feature maps and information from 15,000 destinations globally, and is optimized for both iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. You can peruse the guides in advance on the Web-based version, bookmark your favorite attractions, restaurants and events, and sync your preferences to your mobile. It also works offline.
