All of Sony’s Xperia Z devices are getting Android 5.0 Lollipop

All of Sony’s Xperia Z devices are getting Android 5.0 Lollipop

If you don’t own a Nexus phone or tablet, it can be a little disconcerting hearing about the newest upgrades to Android. Sure, new software is great, but it’s of little use when you’re not sure your manufacturer is going to support the upgrade any time soon, if at all.

Luckily for Sony users, the company announced it would be bringing Android 5.0 Lollipop to all of its Xperia Z phones and tablets, going as far back as the original Xperia Z phone.

The first ones to get the upgrade will be the Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition, with more details coming “soon”. Makes sense, given those phones use almost stock Android. The rest of the Xperia line will have to wait until the beginning of 2015, starting with the Z3 and Z2 series.

As might be expected, Sony implied there’d be a refreshed custom UI and new features to go with the new version of the OS.

An uncertain 2015 date may not be terribly helpful, but it should at least give users something to look forward to.
