YouTube is a great place to watch musicians cover your favorite songs, especially if you’re looking to pick up some pointers on performing them yourself. But in the future, we may not see artists use traditional instruments at all.
Finding himself short on rehearsal space in his small apartment, drummer and developer Emre Tanirgan began working on Paradiddle, a VR app that lets you play drums using a virtual reality headset and handheld controllers. Hit the play button above to see him in action belting out a cover of the Pokémon theme.
Could this be the way musicians practice in the years to come? There are already similar VR apps for drummers and Rock Band VR is slated to arrive for the Oculus Rift this year, so folks are certainly going to be getting in on the action.
Sure, we might need special hardware and controllers for each instrument – but hey, if that’s what it takes to practice at home without the neighbors making a fuss, then bring on the future.
