Xiaomi’s new 100W charger will charge your phone in just 17 minutes

It charges a 4000mAh battery from 0 to 100 in 17 minutes

Chinese hardware maker Xiaomi is gunning for a new record in fast charging with its upcoming 100W charger. That’ll trump Huawei‘s 55W charger released with its foldable phone, the Mate X, which is arguably the fastest we’ve heard of for a phone thus far.

The company’s chairman, Lin Bin, shared a video on social network Weibo showing a phone with a 4,000 mAh battery charging from 0 to 50 percent in just 7 minutes, and from 50 to 100 percent in additional 10 minutes. That’s twice as fast as Oppo’s SuperVOOC charging – currently the quickest standard available on the market – with a 50W charger.

That’s a huge step up from what you get with phones from other manufacturers. For reference, Samsung and OnePlus support between 15W and 30W, which already allows for fairly snappy charging. With Xiaomi’s tech, you won’t need to worry as much about leaving the house without power on your phone.

This is not just an experiment, though. Lu Weibing, head of Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi, confirmed that the charging technology will soon go into mass production.

While we don’t know the exact timeline as to when this technology will be available to consumers, it’s pretty exciting to hear that our charging woes may soon become a thing of the past.
