WWDC 2011 Keynote Speaker? Steve Jobs [Updated]

Update: Apparently the date is wrong on this announcement. This year’s keynote address will be given on June 6th. GigaOm apparently mistook last years keynote announcement, shown here, for the announcement of a speaker for WWDC 2011. At the moment no announcement has been made from Apple about the speaker for WWDC 2011’s keynote address.

According to GigaOm, an announcement has just been released by Apple alerting the media that Steve Jobs will give the keynote address at WWDC 2011 on June 7th at 10 a.m PST. There were some doubts as to whether Jobs would be giving the keynote this year due to his medical leave of absence from the company.

Jobs’ last public appearance was in March for the iPad 2 release but he has remained very much involved with the company on an advisory basis. Some examples of this include the recent discussion over the way that the iPhone collects and shares location data. Jobs was obviously involved in the Q&A released by Apple in response to questions about the location issue and he gave a single phone interview after the Q&A. He has also been seen visiting the campus on various occasions.

This year’s WWDC will be focused almost entirely on software although there is massive speculation surrounding the face that Apple may also introduce a cloud service called iCloud. Along with the cloud talk swirls rumors that Apple may choose WWDC to reveal a cloud music service as well, although we feel that it’s more likely to see that in September at the traditionally music-oriented iPod event.

The only announcements that we feel are a lock are the developer preview of iOS 5 and the public announcement of OS X Lion.
