Bootstrapping your idea is great. But do you know what would be even better? Bootstrapping your idea with a million dollars in the bank. Ok, so you’re no longer bootstrapping, but Verizon’s Powerful Answers Award wants to give you and your idea a helping hand.
Now in its third year, the award offers winners a sizeable chunk of $6 million in cash prizes, plus the opportunity for winners to participate in an accelerator program designed to help develop their ideas and bring solutions to market faster.
The 2015 program is seeking ideas in three core categories: Emergency Response, Internet of Things (IoT), and Transportation. In the Emergency Response category, judges are looking for innovations around first responders, search and rescue and long-term relief.

For IoT, ideas focusing on connected health, smart cities and agriculture will peak the interest of the judges. In the transportation section, anything connected to smarter driving, public transport and distribution and logistics are all noted.
Verizon will give $1 million to the winner of each category. The second prize winner will receive $500,000 and two third-prize winners will take home a cool $250,000. Ideas can be submitted from today until June 18, 2015 at www.powerfulanswersaward.com. All ideas will be reviewed by a panel of experts, with the winners announced later this year.
