WatchESPN, MLS Matchday, Google+ and Crunchyroll now support Chromecast

WatchESPN, MLS Matchday, Google+ and Crunchyroll now support Chromecast

Update: It seems WatchESPN wasn’t the only app to receive Chromecast support today. Google has revealed that the MLS Matchday app will also support its low-cost streaming dongle, giving you the ability to stream prime-time soccer fixtures to any TV set.

The Google+ app for Android and iOS is also getting the same treatment; by pressing the cast button in the Photos section, you can easily stream all of your archived photos and videos. Finally, Crunchyroll has updated its app to support Chromecast – if you’re not familiar, it’s an on-demand streaming service that specializes in Japanese anime and Asian drama shows.

Sports fans, listen up. ESPN and its overlord Disney are updating the WatchESPN app with Chromecast support on iOS and Android.

So if you live in the US and have a TV subscription that includes ESPN, the latest version will let you stream to Google’s pint-sized streaming dongle. With the latest update, it means you can watch ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3, ESPNEWS and ESPN Deporte live on any TV with a HMDI port – and provided you’re in the vicinity of a decent Wi-Fi network, of course.

ESPN says ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater will also be supported once the channels are “in season.”

With the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, the new Chromecast support couldn’t be timed better. If you’re bored by any form of exercise with a competitive element though, good news – WATCH ABC and WATCH Disney apps will be updated with Chromecast support in the near future.
