    Back in January, we reported on how SimilarWeb was looking to topple Alexa with a fresh take on website rankings. And today SimilarGroup, the Tel Aviv-based company behind the product, is lifting the lid on a new paid-for pro version.

    To briefly summarize, SimilarGroup has produced a range of browser plugins over the past few years, such as SimilarSites. And using the data gleaned from these, covering “tens of millions” of installs, the company decided to offer its own tool to analyze the traffic of any website, helping online marketers measure competitor activity. That’s SimilarWeb in a nutshell at least.

    With SimilarWeb PRO, however, comes more in-depth analytics on competitors’ Web traffic, and is designed to help users “discover sources of traffic you simply can’t miss” – this covers affiliates, advertising networks, keywords, publishers and more.

    So, what exactly is there with PRO?

    socialSimilarWeb PRO lets you compare Web traffic for up to 5 competing sites, monitoring things like traffic growth, and Web traffic breakdowns by country, which could be useful for identifying potential markets for expansion. Then there’s referrals, which surface the top 10 highest-referring sites on SimilarWeb, and breakdowns of search by keywords, search engines, paid/organic and more.

    There’s also social and display-advertising facets of the pro analytics service, as well as a feature that highlights the most popular pages on a competitor’s website.

    It’s certainly a compelling proposition, one that’s further sweetened by the news that the company has just closed a $3.5m extension to its Series B round, led by Lord David Alliance, along with existing investors that include Moshe Lichtman and Docor International.

    Pro packages start at $99 per month which covers one user and 50 results per search, rising to $499 for 3 users and unlimited search results. Custom plans are available too.
