Uncovered: Rumored dates sketch timeline for the release of Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8

Today Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet published a list of dates that detail the launch schedule for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. You knew that October was going to be busy, but it’s likely set to be worse than you anticipated.

One quick note: Mary Jo doesn’t publish rumors or things that she doesn’t stand behind. When she cites a “source […] privvy [sic] to Microsoft’s event plans,” she’s not blowing smoke. So, take the following information with some salt as plans change, but you can lean on the dates without too much worry.

October 25th: Launch event for Windows 8 and the Surface RT, which will run Windows RT. The other Surface is not due until early 2013, remember. The big shindig will be in New York (damn).

October 26th: General availability of Windows 8. This is gospel, and is the hard stop for Windows 8.

October 29th: The official launch of Windows Phone 8, according to Mary Jo. This will take place in either San Francisco or LA. Microsoft, let’s do it in the city by the bay. Please. Don’t make us go to Southern California. Devices will go on sale, again according to the source, in the following weeks.

October 30th: BUILD kicks off. This event will, in my estimation, tie together each new product, and present a unified Microsoft front from a product perspective.

So, that means that if one was to try to hit every Microsoft event in the month, extensive mileage would be racked up. TNW will be in attendance of as many of the major events as possible, flight scheduling dependent.

October. The month of 8.
