Uber is on its way into China after introducing local language support to its app

Uber is on its way into China after introducing local language support to its app

Uber has updated its iOS app to add support for simplified Chinese, dropping a huge hint that its move into China could be imminent. Its Android app on Google Play has not been updated yet, but that could just be a matter of time.

In an interview with TNW in Taipei, Head of Operations Ryan Graves told us that the company is looking at a number of markets next, including Hong Kong and China. The company is officially hiring for roles in Shanghai and Beijing.

Uber may have some tough challenges to overcome as it seeks to make inroads into the potentially lucrative market in China, especially as it tries to disrupt the long-established taxi cartels and industries existing in each town or city. With its latest app update, however, Uber looks closer to taking on the mammoth task of moving into mainland China.
