Sun is a beautiful hyperlocal weather app powered by Dark Sky

Sun is a beautiful hyperlocal weather app powered by Dark Sky

There are a ton of weather apps out there, but the one that often takes the cake for its accuracy is Dark Sky — but that might be about to change soon.

Sun is a beautifully designed alternative to the app, offering the same data in something that both looks and works better.

The technology behind Dark Sky predicts if it’s going to rain exactly where you’re standing. When it picks up on bad weather coming your way, you get a notification that rain is expected within the next few minutes. Using it feels like the future.

The only thing that has always bothered me is its design — it just doesn’t look good. Luckily, thanks to app developer Jakob Henner we’re now able to enjoy its functionality in a great-looking package.

Sun focuses on a ‘weather line’ that visualizes temperature and precipitation for every hour. The interface is easy to master — scrolling sideways lets you take a look at the weather during different parts of the day, while swiping vertically lets you switch between cities.

Unfortunately, the hyperlocal weather prediction is only available in the US, UK and Ireland. But even without that functionality, it’s worth checking out. Get it for $1.99 in the App Store.
