Square revamps its Register app as it continues to simplify processes behind its payments service

Mobile payments company Square has overhauled the design of its point-of-sale solution Square Register today, as it seeks to further simplify the processes across its offerings.

Square Register is a service, available as an iOS and Android app, that lets business owners monitor all purchases made through their register, giving them access to all of their sales statistics right from the app or online interface.

It has been updated with a smoother and more intuitive experience for both merchants and their customers, and optimized for efficiency and simpler customization. Now business owners can also get a consistent experience across Android and iOS 7 devices, as well as with Square’s Web dashboard.

Earlier this month, Square removed all the limits on deposits for US businesses that use the service, and decided to discontinue its monthly pricing option on February 1, 2014, as it sought to simplify its pricing with one transparent rate per-swipe.

In the same way, Square Register is being re-thought by the company as well. Its redesign aims to boost the seller experience in a number of ways:

  • Design Details: Aimed at improving the interaction between buyer and seller. For example, the timing of Register’s screen changes is designed to correspond with how customers typically order during the lunch hour.
  • Square Dashboard: There is now a full-screen dashboard that makes sales and activity available at a glance.
  • Gratuity: Square’s new design smoothly integrates gratuity, making tipping effortless for customers with no disruption to the payment flow.

There is definitely more coming from the mobile payments firm as it seeks to improve its products — and it seems like for now, simplicity is the way to go.
