Samsung’s Verizon FiOS TV app now supports 75 channels and Flex View on-demand content

Samsung’s Verizon FiOS TV app now supports 75 channels and Flex View on-demand content

It was way back in January last year when news of a Samsung/Verizon partnership was announced, which would see the launch of a new FiOS TV app on Samsung smart TVs and Blu-ray players. This finally launched in the summer, meaning that subscribers to Verizon’s FiOS TV wouldn’t need a separate box to access content…all they’d need is the app.

Just to recap, Verizon FiOS is a bundled Internet access, telephone, and television service which works over a fiber-optic network.

FioSThe TV app is offered for free on all supported platforms, initially offering access to 26 different channels, such as CNN, TNT, HBO, MTV and others.

Now, however, Samsung and Verizon have released a new version of the FiOS TV app, drawing on 75 channels, as well as Flex View, which brings fiOS content to the video-on-demand (VoD) masses.

The app lets Verizon’s FiOS TV and Internet subscribers watch a slew of live TV channels, as well as more than 25,000 Flex View movies/TV on-demand. The app is available to download through the Samsung device, and if you’ve already installed the app it will automatically be updated when launched.

“In July, Samsung became the first TV platform to offer FiOS TV, giving consumers the flexibility to watch their favorite FiOS channels from any TV in the home – without requiring a set-top box,” says Eric Anderson, vice president of content and product solutions, Samsung Electronics America. “Today we deliver on our commitment to providing the best home entertainment experience as we offer more channels than ever.”

Samsung may well have been the first TV platform to offer FiOS TV, but today’s news follows on from LG’s announcement back in November, which also saw 75 channels and on-demand movies arrive on a range of its own compatible devices.
