Runkeeper Live Lets You Track Someone (Running) in Real Time, Online.

Runkeeper Live Lets You Track Someone (Running) in Real Time, Online.

Exercise tracking iPhone App Runkeeper is a favorite of mine. It does what it says on the tin and very well, but rather than sit back satisfied, the company keeps on innovating.

This latest feature is a first (do correct me if I’m wrong). It’s called RunKeeper Live and it lets you track someone’s movements on the web in real time. This is ideal for long runs, marathons, cycles, races etc. and a wonderful way for others to keep an eye on you without having to actually be there running next to you.

To get it set up, all you need to do is go to your RunKeeper sharing settings on the web and click the box to enable live tracking.

Anyone viewing your public profile will be alerted when you start your activity, and you can email your public profile link to anyone you like to let them know. Your public profile can be found at http://runkeeper.com/user/username.

The 💜 of EU tech

The latest rumblings from the EU tech scene, a story from our wise ol' founder Boris, and some questionable AI art. It's free, every week, in your inbox. Sign up now!

Once on your profile page, the watcher will see a map with details of the run (time, calories, pace etc..) in real time with the page refreshing every few seconds. If the runner takes a picture, a photo is also uploaded in real time. Heck, combine this with real time video and you’ll never run alone.

Initially, this functionality is available exclusively to “Fitness Report” subscribers, a membership option that gives you detailed analysis of your exercising. Becoming a subscriber will set you back $4.99 a month, or $19.99 a year, reasonable. The iPhone app itself costs $9.99 for the pro version or there’s a free version too. A comparison of both can be found via a link on their homepage.
