The iPad 2 has seen a huge demand ever since it went on sale in the US. There have been numerous reports about limited availability of stocks and long lines outside the Apple Stores already.
A new report from Digitimes claims that Apple’s suppliers delivered between 2.4 million to 2.6 million iPad 2 units in the month of March. Whilst these are unofficial numbers, it does give a brief overview on how many units were possibly sold by Apple. It has to be noted that it took Apple 28 days to sell the first million original iPad units.
Digitimes adds that based on a “conservative estimate”, Apple is set to take delivery of 4 million to 4.3 million units a month, totaling over 12 million iPad 2 units for the second quarter. Sources indicated that the key to Apple’s and other vendors’ shipment goals for Q4, 2011 will be the supply of cover lenses for touch panel modules.
The demand for iPad 2 continues to remain high today, with most places still waiting for additional stock. Apple has, however, lowered the estimated delivery time for new orders from 4-5 weeks down to 2-3 weeks, suggesting that the company may be slowly overcoming supply issues.
