Rakuten-owned Spanish VOD service Wuaki.tv partners with Microsoft, now available on Xbox 360 and iPad

Rakuten-owned Spanish VOD service Wuaki.tv partners with Microsoft, now available on Xbox 360 and iPad

Spanish film and TV streaming service Wuaki.tv is now available on Microsoft’s Xbox 360, EuropaPress reports. In addition, the Barcelona-based company also launched its first iPad app ‘Wuaki.tv Player’ a few days ago.

Following the deal between Microsoft and Wuaki.tv, Spanish Xbox 360 owners will be able to access 3,000 films and TV episodes from Wuaki’s catalogue through their game consoles and watch them directly on their TV sets. As for its iPad app, it offers similar features as long as Wi-Fi is enabled.

While Wuaki.tv is often compared to Netflix, its offering is actually hybrid, as its clients can choose between à la carte transactions and a premium unlimited subscription plan.

As you may remember, the Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten acquired this “online video club” last June for an undisclosed amount. At the time, the team had already announced that its service would launch on additional platforms, including iOS, Android and game consoles.

Although it already boasted partnerships with set-top box and connected TV manufacturers, its deal with Microsoft is likely to help Wuaki.tv reinforce its stronghold in the living room. To give its launch a boost, the companies have already announced that Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get free access to Wuaki’s premium plan during one month.
