Polaroid’s Polamatic photo app lands on Android, sports more filters/frames than iOS version

Polamatic, the smartphone photo app from Polaroid, has landed on Android — as noted by Engadget. The app hits the Google Play store some two months after it debuted on iOS, but packs more features than the Apple version.

In today’s era of ‘selfies’, ‘Instagramming’ and ever-impressive smartphone camera specs, the humble Polaroid is resigned to being a niche for enthusiasts and our memories only. So it makes perfect sense that the camera maker has jumped on the photo app bandwagon with its own take.

The $1.99 app features 20 photo filters and 36 frames to put around your snaps. Those that are inclined to add text have the choice of captions with 24 different fonts. That’s more than the 12 filters and 12 borders within the iOS app; consider it a sweetener for Android owners who have been forced to waited a little longer for the app.

Finished Polaroids can be stored to a phone, shared via email, or posted to a plethora of the usual sites: Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter.

Scott W. Hardy, President and CEO of Polaroid, said of the Android app:

The Polamatic app allows Polaroid to bring the instant picture look and feel everyone loves and remembers to today’s mobile device user. There is something nostalgic about holding a picture framed by the iconic Polaroid Classic Border, and we are bringing that feeling to the digital world.

The Android app is on Google Play now, where it is available for devices running Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) and upwards.
