Google may have teased the Pixel 6’s release date in recent ads

Or maybe we're looking into it too much

Google may have teased the Pixel 6’s release date in recent ads

Google has taken a laissez-faire approach to revealing its products of late. After teasing the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro very publicly on Twitter last month, the company is now already running a new ad featuring the phones. Behold:

Blink and you’ll miss it, but this ad actually shows off the phone in the flesh for the first time — not just a render. You get a real-life sense of just how big that camera bump is:

Otherwise, there’s not very much to it we don’t already know, as it mostly shows off Android 12’s Material You design. Still, it’s just another sign the company is finally getting serious about hardware.

Separately, the company teased the new phone on Instagram as well, showing off a home screen with a date of Tuesday the 19th. It’s a classic move for companies to ‘accidentally’ leak products release dates this way, and it does so happen that October 19th falls on a Tuesday. This could be the date of the Pixel 6 event, or it could be the data the phone is actually available for purchase.

But I mean, it could also be totally wrong — the earlier video has a few different dates at different moments, including ‘Monday 02’ (which won’t happen until April), and Monday 13 (which is next week). Neither of those dates seems exactly likely, although I suppose in theory the latter could be when Google will tell us when it’ll announce the phone.

But really it’s just all speculation at this point. The phone is coming out this fall, and we’ll surely find out more within the next few weeks.
