Pinterest updated its social sharing site with a new search filter today, which is designed to help users quickly find or rediscover their own pins.
It’s pretty simple in practice. Click on the search bar, begin typing a keyword or query and when the initial results appear, highlight the “Just my pins” option in the corresponding dialog box.
Pinterest will then show everything that you’ve pinned with that description. It’s a really useful feature if you like to use the service for saving recipes, or maybe a list of products that you want to buy when your next pay cheque comes through.
The new feature suggests that Pinterest would like its users to upload and catalog ideas in a similar manner to Evernote. The aforementioned note-taking app has taken great strides to encourage its users to save rich-media content through its Web Clipper extension and camera-integrated mobile apps. With the right tags, titles and categories, it’s a seamless way to save ideas for future reference.
Pinterest is yet to promote its own captions and boards in quite the same way, but it’s a logical extension of the service for those users who already own a wealth of pins and thematic boards.
The new search filter is rolling out for Web users right now, and will hit the company’s mobile apps “soon.”
It follows the introduction of three categories – product pins, recipe pins and movie pins – launched by Pinterest last month, alongside a new share button for third-party mobile apps.
“We hope you enjoy searching across all your boards and finding hidden treasures along the way,” Hui Xu, Software Engineer at Pinterest said.
