It was about time: Periscope finally arrived on Android today – two months after the original launch of the app on iOS.
The app has pretty much all the features you see on iOS, including livestreams you can save to watch later and the ability to broadcast privately. There a few specific enhancements for Android, however.
For example, Android users can set up notifications for when a follower goes live, has shared a broadcast or starts being followed by another user. Broadcasts can also be saved without the need to upload a file, so you can save some data, and if you receive a text message or phone call in the middle of a broadcast, a button to return to your stream will appear on your notification bar when you exit the app.
Expectedly, the app’s look has also been shifted a bit to include many Material Design elements, such as the trademark floating action button and tabs you can swipe between. You’ll need to be running KitKat 4.4 or newer to install it, however. You can get it from the Google Play Store now.
