Oppo’s new flagship has a 10x optical zoom and a ‘pizza slice’ selfie-camera

With a wedge-shaped notch

Oppo’s new flagship has a 10x optical zoom and a ‘pizza slice’ selfie-camera

After teasing it for a long time, Oppo’s finally unveiled the first phone under its new flagship series: The Reno.

The device’s unique selling point is certainly its camera, which offers a 10x optical zoom – double that of Huawei P30 Pro’s 5x lossless zoom capability. Sadly, Oppo’s new device is available only in China at the moment.

Notably, the Reno has a weird pizza slice-shaped popup selfie module to achieve a notch-less screen. This is quite different from the company’s flagship from last year, the Find X, which used a mechanism to slide up the entire frame to reveal the selfie module.

However, there’s no mention of 3D-face unlock. Instead, the device comes with an upgraded in-display fingerprint sensor; the company claims it’s 28.5 percent faster than the previous gen.

Oppo’s Find X

Apart from these, Oppo’s new handset has all the ingredients of a 2019 flagship. Here’ a look at the specs:

Specifications

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855
  • Display: 6.6-inch FullHD+ at 2340 x 1080
  • RAM: 6/8GB
  • Rear camera: 48-megapixel with f/1.7 (OIS), a 13-megapixel periscope-style telephoto sensor with f/3,0 (OIS), and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2
  • Zoom: 10x lossless
  • Front camera: 16-megapixel with f/2.0
  • Battery: 4,065 mAh
  • Internal storage: 128/256GB
  • Software: ColorOS 6 based on Android 9.0 Pie

The phone has another, less beefed-up model which sports a 6.4-inch OLED screen and Snapdragon 710 processor, but loses the 10x zoom capability.

Oppo Reno Colorways

The Reno 10x zoom edition is being launched in four colorways, and will go on sale in China from next month. The 6GB + 128GB variant will be priced at CNY 3999 ($595), the 6GB + 256GB will retail at CNY 4499 ($670), and the 8GB+256GB variant will cost you CNY 4799 ($714).
