Opera has released the latest version of its desktop browser for Windows and Mac machines today, promising that its new ‘Aura’ hardware acceleration provides “smoother, snappier animations with a more responsive feel”.
The company’s new Aura technology isn’t actually present in the Mac build of Opera 21, but the same effects are achieved using Apple’s core animation features. As well as making the whole thing feel a bit quicker and smoother, Opera 21 also gives users the option of displaying the full URL in the address field, rather than a truncated version showing the domain and a badge indicating site security. Opera says that the shortened version provides easier at-a-glance information for non-technical users.
Rounding off the updates are a number of compatibility and stability fixes, including support for scaling with screens that use a 200 percent DPI in Windows and a slight rework of the Mac keyboard handling to provide better performance when using Web apps.
