Nokia sold 8.8 million Lumia smartphones in the third quarter of 2013, an increase of 19 percent over the previous three months.
The Finnish OEM attributed the growth to its “broadened” range of handsets and increased demand for the mid-range Lumia 520. It’s a significant figure when compared with the 7.4 million sales Nokia achieved in the second quarter of this year, and even more so considering that the company sold just 2.9 million throughout the same period in 2012.
Nokia reported today that total smartphone volumes rose from 11.7 million units to 14.7 million units in the third quarter this year, crediting the remaining 5.9 million to its range of full-touch Asha handsets.
